executive summary
As we know about the facts that in Pakistan, children of 15 years form nearly half of the country’s, population of 144 million and every third child lives below the poverty line, some 1.3 billion people nearly a quarter of the world’s population continue to live in extreme poverty, states the 1998 UNR. As poverty, as a consequence of globalization, affects children more than anyone else today. These innocent are unable to protect themselves, the following facts confirm this, 35,000 children in the world die each day from malnutrition and preventable diseases; 600,000 women die from complications relating to child birth every year, leaving one million children orphaned; over 630,000 Australian children (one in seven) are living below the poverty line. In Canada child poverty increased 45 percent between 1989 and 1997. In 1997 one out of five children in Canada were poor. In Bangladesh, two in every three children are malnourished. One in three is forced to work for his/her survival; in Pakistan every 3rd child lives below the poverty line due to which they are forced into begging and labour.
Children everywhere in the world is tending to bear the heaviest burden of poverty, they are much more at risk of living in poverty than any one else. They die because of the causes of poverty. They don’t go to school because their parents cannot afford the fees and need them to work to supplement their family income. They not only work as laborers but are also underpaid and overworked. The foregoing facts are those, which provides justifiable basis for child labour everywhere in the world. These justifiable facts, one’s tends to explore the alternatives to eliminate the misery of child labour.
