CHAPTER -7
ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT AREA
Enterprise Development Programme stems from the core issue of helping people reduce their poverty and economic disparity. It opens doors to economic freedom and self-sufficiency, channeling irrepressible desire of the poor to improve their situation and take responsibility for their livelihood and security. By investing in micro-enterprise, is to invest in the future of poor families, to lift them out of poverty.
The empowerment through entrepreneurship development project was implemented in one district of NWFP
  • Mansehra: funded by CIDA
Another micro- enterprise development project was also implemented in district Mansehra of NWFP which was funded by UNDP.
Targets of Enterprise Development
Target1:
To identify and train 12 enterprise activists in each district
Output1:
A total of 54 Enterprise Activists have been successfully trained as master trainers with 15 enterprise activists in Mansehra Districts. Practical experience of conducting enterprise development trainings was also gained by the enterprise activists by involving them in actually conducting the enterprise development trainings in the second year of the project, under the supervision of the enterprise development officers.
Target2:
To identify and train 144 entrepreneurs in each of the four districts in enterprise development.
Output2:
Each enterprise activists further identified 12 entrepreneurs, 6 entrepreneurs in each year. 162 in Mansehra District. These selected entrepreneurs have been successfully given enterprise development trainings and other skill and design trainings. In the first year of the project the trainings were being conducted by experienced trainers and in the second year the trainings were being conducted by the enterprise activist themselves under the supervision of the enterprise development officers.
Target3:
To identify 12 producers by each of the entrepreneurs selected in the project in a period of two years.
Output3:
According to the structure of the project, each entrepreneur will further identify 6 producers each year and will transfer the skills within the community. Therefore in 1,043 home based producers have been benefited in Mansehra.
Target4;
To give skill development training to all of the selected entrepreneurs in project of all the districts.

Output4:
All the  entrepreneurs of Mansehra were given skill and design trainings. Skills related to fashion tailoring, colour combination, better improved designing, embroidery, gabba work, glass paintings, fabric painting and many more.   
Target5:
To increase the income level of the project beneficiaries
Output5:
The income of the enterprise activities of Mansehra district after getting various trainings under the EED project has been tremendously increased.
Target7:
To give exposure visits to the project beneficiaries of various markets in order to enhance their knowledge regarding product development and managing raw material.
Output 7:
The entrepreneurs along with some of the producers from both the district have been given and opportunity to carry out exposure visits to various large markets. Under the project the entrepreneurs were given an exposure visit of Mansehra. The purpose of the exposure visit is to get new ideas and designs while exploring the new market. One of the key components of the exposure visit was that the entrepreneurs were also able to develop new linkages with other shopkeepers of the same product line.   
Output8:
In the Abbottabad district 429 new home based producers and 77 new entrepreneurs who have never been engaged in any income generating activity before are now earning portion of income and are engaged in income generating  activity due to EED project. Out these 233 were female new home based producers and 77 new female entrepreneurs. 
Output9:
In the Haripur district 229 new home based producers and 47 percent were female new home based producers and 77 new female entrepreneurs. 
Output10:
Similarly in the Mansehra district 410 new home based producers
and 74 new entrepreneurs who have never been engaged in any income generating activity before are now earning portion of income and are engaged in income generating activity due to EED project. Out these 198 were female new home based producers.
Output 11:
In the Mansehra district 421 new home based producers and 40 new entrepreneurs who have never been engaged in any income generating activity before are now earning portion of income and are engaged in income generating activity due to EED project. Out these 140 were female new home based producers and 18 new female entrepreneurs. 
Target12:
One of the major components under the project was to develop new linkages for the beneficiaries in order to increase their income level.
